6 month check up

Elijah had his 6 month well-baby appointment this morning. He was such a little trooper ... he must have a pretty good memory for that clinic, tho. As soon as I put him on the scale to be weighed, the bottom pout lip came out, started quivering and he began his high-pitched wailing. He got so worked up that he pooped! It was actually pretty funny. His doctor said he's doing just fine; we thought he might be coming down with something the past couple days because he was running a little fever and has the sniffles pretty bad. Doctor checked him out tho and said it's not anything serious...just a little cold. Thank goodness.

So here's the stuff that you wanna really know...

Length : 25.5 inches -- he grew 2.25 inches since his last appointment! Still only in about the 15th percentile for length though.

Weight : 15 pounds, 13 ounces which is 25th percentile.

Head : 43.5 cm...50TH PERCENTILE! So we have a baby with a big melon! Well, just big in proportion to himself I guess! Maybe his head is a sign of what's to come? He needs to get longer because he looks like his daddy and I think a short Adam would be funny looking!

So there are you baby stats for today...I am cutting the post short because I have about 50 things I want to do before Elijah wakes up from his nap, one of which is play my super awesome piano from that super awesome husband !

thoughts

So...today was pretty much an atypical day for me. I had the day off from work and Elijah slept until 9:15am. It was soooo great to sleep in a little. I was still up before him but that meant that I had a chance to brush my teeth and put my contacts in before he woke up! We watched a little local news while he ate and then, surprise, Adam walked in for a quick visit. Just popped in to say hi...one of the perks of him working 1 mile from our apartment! He asked what we had planned for the day -- this is where it gets really atypical! I had the whole day planned out. We needed to go grocery shopping and clean the apartment a little and then I had dinner all planned out. Yeah, me...cooking dinner. I dunno...I woke up and just knew what was happening. I can honestly say it's the first time since Elijah was born that I didn't just say "Well, it's my day off and we'll see what happens". YAY for organization! So that was our plan. And as soon as Elijah finished eating, I got ready, got him ready and then we were off...a little later than planned but still okay. We got to the grocery store all set...my list made out, broken down into sections (I am SO excited by this...just try to be excited for me!) and coupons ready! I decided to take it slower today in the store...we went up and down EVERY isle...and Elijah was SO good! He just looked around like he was having a good time. At about isle 6 he got fussy but you know what? MOM was prepared...she's a champion! I took a slightly larger purse today and put extra toys in there...good move on my part! So we were done except for all the frozen food. I said something to Elijah about being almost done and he was PASSED OUT! Awww....I tired him out! He stayed asleep, even when I checked out and had some crazy old lady ram her cart into ours. No problem...she apologized and I just smiled and said "It's OK...he'll sleep through a hurricane!". And I really knew that it was OK> Normally I would have probably given a half-hearted "It's OK" and really been thinking "Whatever you crazy lady!" and been all bent out of shape about it. We got to the car in the rain and Elijah woke up a little...I still got all 15 bags of groceries (yeah, I counted) into my trunk and got into the driver's seat and just sighed a little. We'd made it, without an incident.
So we drove home and Elijah was awake when I pulled into the parking lot...no biggie...he just sat in his carseat while I unloaded the groceries. I figured he'd pass out for a nap. Well he had a different agenda. He ate and decided to play for awhile, while I cut produce and made taco dip. Then the world stopped spinning for him...he started just freaking out in his Excersaucer and I thought for a minute "Oh this is bad..." but I picked him up and he was rubbing his eyes. Yeah, nap time. I laid him down and he wailed for about 5 minutes...I felt soooooo bad for those 5 minutes....but I knew he was tired and if I picked him up again, he'd just stay awake. Know what? That was about an hour ago and he is still asleep! So here I am....waiting for the chicken to finish cooking so I can finish the enchiladas and have dinner ready for Adam in about 45 minutes.

SO when did this happen? First of all, when did stuff finally fall into place with Elijah? When did we finally get him on a schedule? The last time I had off work (UH, yesterday!) he was so uncooperative! Today has been OK...and part of it I know is because I've been trying so hard to keep him on a set schedule. But all this is just icing on the cake today. When did I actually become a real wife and mother? I mean, I know the technical date but those are just dates...I didn't really feel like this until today. Until now, I was just Sandy...living a different life. And that different life was OK but it was so strange for me. I was so independent until I met Adam...everything was about work and getting myself situated. All that changed...I don't know...maybe I just didn't really look at it until today. But as I was preparing dinner it suddenly hit me that now I'm not just Sandy...I'm someone's wife, someone's mom, someone's sister, someone's daughter, someone's daughter-in-law, someone's sister-in-law...OMG! The list goes on....and normally this would all freak me out but it's totally OK today! When did all this happen? And what makes today so different? HOLY CRAP!

random

SOOOOOO, I went to Caitlin's website and ran my name through that search thingee...tried to post my results and it was all screwy. Sorry...there are apparenty 2192 Sandra Clark's in the US. I'm not surprised actually...our new apartment manager ran our names as a credit check and there are some pretty bad women named Sandra Clark...they get evicted and drive army tanks or something like that!

On the other hand, there are only 33 Sandra Guenther's. We were a rare breed, and I have contributed to their extinction I think!

You know what kind of surprised me? My married name is more common than Adam's. Crazy...

My baby is still sound asleep and it is almost 8:30am! Yeah, it sounds really good until I tell you that he was WIDE AWAKE from about 2:50am until 4am! Seriously...bug-eyed awake, staring at me, babbling away! I mean, I enjoyed his company for about the first 25 minutes and then I was like "Ok, you need to go back to sleep so I can go back to sleep too!" Nope...he had an agenda I guess. So he can sleep away this morning. Actually, he can't. He has about another half hour and I'm gonna make a whole lot of noise. If he doesn't get a good nap in during the afternoon, he is a GROUCH at night! Seriously difficult to deal with...crazy baby.

That's all for now...I'm really tired and I can't think of anything else to drone on about. Too tired to think and maybe too tired to sleep...I couldn't fall back to sleep after Adam left for work. You'd think the lack of snoring would be nice!

I really hate moving...

You should see our new apartment...it is CRAZY right now! We had to downsize a little bit so even though most of our things aren't getting unpacked for the next 6 months, there is too much stuff in our place right now. Everytime we start to unpack stuff, we have to move other stuff...and then we can't get to the bedrooms...and then we have to move more stuff back and forth to get to the bedrooms (and bathroom!). AUGH! And I hate unpacking...even more than packing...and this is the first time we've moved with a baby! I didn't realize just how difficult it was going to be. The weekend we moved was actually okay, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Guenther. Elijah stayed with them ALL day on Friday and most of the day Saturday (thanks Mom and Dad ). Sunday wasn't all that bad either...Adam and I took Elijah with us to the old place to finish up the final cleaning and the walk through with the manager. Ahhhh yes, but then the new week started. Although we have moved someplace that is aproximately 3 minutes from Adam's work, I have added at least 25 minutes to my drive. So instead of the usual 6am feeding of the baby and then a quick snooze before heading off to work, I have to get up right away. And drop Elijah off at his grandparents house on my way into work. And then drive 20 minutes to work...which I am finding is a long drive when you're sleep deprived. All this would be okay if Adam and I were getting to bed early enough. But we're trying to unpack and organize and so on...which goes slowly when you have a 4 month old who has gotten very vocally demanding when he's hungry. And he has decided that he likes to take his time now when he eats...so during these 1 to 1 1/2 hour feeding marathons, I usually fall asleep feeding him because I'm just beat. This leaves Adam to unpack by himself...I usually wake up to find a pile of newspaper on the floor and at least a bunch of empty boxes. Then I feel guilty for not helping him...and then I remember that after our 6 month lease is up, we might just be doing this again! AUGH!

Elijah and I are waiting for the cable guy to get here...one of the perks of this apartment is free basic cable and free high-speed internet. As you can see, the internet works great! Cable is another story...hopefully it's something simple that the guy can fix today (I miss my HGTV and Lifetime reruns of Grey's Anatomy already!). It's 10:40am now...he should be here before 1:30pm...

My baby is getting tired now...he needs a nap I think. This is my first day off from work since we've been completely moved in and a nice long baby nap would be great for me to get some things done around here. I will update soon...

4 month check up

Anyway, Elijah had his 4 month well-baby check-up today. It was OK...he went to the doctor in camo pants and a plaid shirt (Dad dressed him!). I'm sorry Adam...you usually do SO well matching his clothes but the one day that I have to take him in public ALONE and he looks a little, well, pattern challenged! Thank goodness he got to get naked at the doctor! Anyway...Doctor came in the room, commented on my crusty, impetigo nose and then started to check out the little Munchkin Man...who responded by squealing and screaming at the doctor! I felt bad for both of them! Dr. Milonas told me he doesn't take offense to kids not liking him but that normally it doesn't happen until the 6 month visit! Elijah just decided early that he doesn't like going to the doctor I guess...

So here's his stats:

WEIGHT: 14 lbs, 6 oz about 50th percentile

LENGTH: 23 and 1/4 inches between the 10th and 15th percentile...he's my little shorty!

HEAD: do you really care? It's 41 cm...between 25th and 50th percentile!

SO basically my baby is short and fat! Not really...he's just eating well!

And he just woke up so I have to go...he got shots today so he gets to be spoiled for the next day or two...my poor little Munchkin Man!
